It was a little depressing going through Carterville with all the old remains of mining, all the people long ago out of work. Then we were in Webb City. We had lunch at the Broadbury Deli, good food. Then were in Joplin. There’s not very much of the old flavor left in town. We did find a barber shop that was really cute, used to be a gas station/cafe, it was fun to see an actual highway sign that said 66.
The last time we were in Galena it was dark. Being so close, we wanted to see if the museum was open. It was, we’re sorry that Howard Litch is no longer there, we’ve heard he’s a great tour guide. There was a volunteer working there who filled in for Howard wonderfully. For such a little museum it is loaded with lots of great stuff. We cruised through town and checked things out and then headed back through Joplin. There wasn’t much traffic for quitting time. Off of old 66 in Joplin looks like it should be on the mother road. Lots of old buildings and motels. Time for camp.
We will now spend some time in Tulsa. Since we are visiting family here, we probably won’t do much looking around on our beloved road. After a few days we just had to meander over to see some of the road. We took a drive up to Claremore to check out the Will Rogers Hotel. What a great building. The restoration is lovely. We also drove up to the Will Rogers Museum, pretty cool. The town of Claremore is a pretty nice place, just the right size. On our way back home we couldn’t resist stopping at a favorite place of ours, the Blue Whale. We walked out on him.
If the weather would’ve been nicer and the water cleaner, who knows, we might have tried that old slide out.

After a few more days the pull of the road happened again. We headed south to Sapulpa and Norma’s for breakfast. It wasn’t that great. And Norma was in a bad mood. Oh well. We decided to make a day of it and traveled on through Kellyville, Bristow, Depew, and Stroud. We took our time in Stroud and really looked around. Then it was on to Davenport and Chandler. We did more exploring here. Then through Warwick, Wellston, Luther and on into Arcadia. We had to go take another look at Jim Ross’ house. We are really envious of his location. Then we hopped on the turnpike and back to Tulsa. We won’t be doing any Mother Roading for several months. We will miss it, but anxiously await a chance to get back to old Route 66.
