Subject: Re: [route66j Campervan/camping facilities on 66?

Well, I have to put my two cents in here. Sadie, I’m afraid you just don’t understand some things about some RVers. And I will admit that we’re not all the same. I don’t understand the people that tow around these big giant trailers for the weekend either. We do it out of necessity. My husband works construction and we travel from job to job. Our RV is our dang house. ;) And one advantage of having your house with you is that you have your collection with you also. And you get to share it with others. We have converted many people to 66ers due to them seeing the shield on our home and coming over and asking about it. Call us traveling ambassadors. For us it works out great! We follow the Mother Road while in our off time, i.e., the winter. We tow a vehicle behind us and trace the route in that. Most people on this list are probably envious of the amount of time we get to spend enjoying Route 66. By traveling in the winter we have a definite advantage in many aspects. We get to spend an unlimited amount of time wherever we want to. We can spend a few hours or the whole day talking with the human icons of the road, people such as Lucille, Angel, Bill Shea, Bob Waldmire or whoever. True we might miss out on the experience of the old hotels, but it is our option to stay in them if we so desire. We usually stay in a campground for at least three days and do the route 100 miles either side of us. And then move up the road a bit and do it again. We cannot fathom doing the road in a mere 2 weeks. There are owners of some of the campgrounds we stay in that are struggling just like the motel owners, and while some are not as old and remembered as the old motels, they deserve the patronage just as equally. The rates are about the same as the older motels, in some cases the campground is more. Well, didn’t mean to get off on a rant. But did it anyway. Thanks for listening. BTW I think you should do tent camping in Yellowstone.

Subject: Lucille Will Go Out With a Bang!

Just wanted everyone to know that I talked with Cheryl today. She’s doing as well. She said to tell everyone HI. She will be back online next week. I can’t remember who was asking about donating in Lucille’s name; Cheryl asks that you wait to do this. She is establishing a nonprofit organization set up to help the businesses along the route pay insurance costs. She will post more details on this when it completely organized and ready to go. Tomorrow will be a grand day on the Mother Road. There will be a small service in Weatherford at the funeral home and then a procession along Route 66 to Hydro for burial. Lucille will be wearing a Route 66 vest. Her Hall of Fame plaque will be on her casket along with a license plate that states “I’d rather be on Route 66.” The procession will stop at her station and the OK Assn is going to pay tribute and say good-bye one last time. There will be a cross erected at the station near the pumps. This cross will later be moved to the fence across the street so people can leave notes and such. For those who are wondering, she was in her store, doing what she loved when the Lord called her home.

Subject: Vettes in Route 66 TV Show

Okay, I looked it up. Here’s what it says in the Summer 1990 issue of Corvette Quarterly. The article is “romancing the road” written by Kermit D. Park, pg 16. “Since ‘Route 66’ aired on CBS, color shooting was out of the question because CBS didn’t have color equipment. Therefore, all of the Corvettes used in the show were Fawn Beige in color except for the Horizon Blue 1960 Corvette used in the pilot episode. This was because Fawn Beige was the most neutral color to the camera.” Wanted to know this for myself and thought I’d share.

Subject Re: NONCAC - Day Three of the Fun Run

Hi Ella,
Glad you enjoyed the trip. Yes. I was sending to you directly. There were a couple of other CACFriends that had requested I send directly. Didn’t know if you were going to hit the road again and didn’t want you to miss any of the trip. It was lots of fun this time. Met lots of new people. Miss being there already.

We are now in Ogden UT visiting my family. We will leave tomorrow and head north. After a brief visit with friends in Idaho Falls we will go back to MT. We’ll have a little fun in Missoula over Memorial Day weekend before we park for the summer. We’ll attend the MT State Corvette Rally. Should be lots of fun. Then it’s back to the real world.

I’m actually ready to be in one place for a white I’m so far behind on things, need to get caught up. Hope alt is good with you. Greg hasn’t been on the list much lately. Hopefully his retirement is going through okay. I’ve heard from him a couple of times. The homepage for the Egroup wasn’t working and I had all these cards I was going to pass out at the Fun Run. Got it all straightened out now. Take care
Luv Ya! Cheryl
